Mathoura: Gateway to a nature wonderland that still bears the traces of ancient origins. The Barmah-Millewa Forest covers some 70,000 hectares and is the largest Redgum forest in the Southern Hemisphere. The area is home to hundreds of birds, animals, plants and trees. A Bird Observatory is found at Gulpa Creek, just 4km from town. Many other activities are available close to Mathoura, including boating, kayaking and river cruises, heritage walks and many forest and valley walks and drives, wine tasting and more. Mathoura Golf Club is found just 2km north of the town. Located on the edge of the largest River Redgum forest in the world, Mathoura is an 18 hole seasonal sandscrape course surrounded by natural box timber and native vegetation. It is a fairly flat, easy walking course on a red clay base, and there are two bunkers. Mathoura Golf Course opens from April until early October and is 40 km north of Echuca and 30 km south of Deniliquin on the Cobb Hwy.
